HUMMINGBIRD NEST 2006

HUMMINGBIRD NEST 2006

An Anna's hummingbird sitting on her nestAn Anna's hummingbird made its nest in a tree in the courtyard of a in Seattle condominium this year. The process of turning sugar and insects into new hummingbird flesh, bone, neurons and feathers was able to be viewed by "Ezra's" neighbors. It was truly wonderful. Two eggs were laid and one hatched and subsequently fledged. The fledgling stayed in the trees in the courtyard for a number of days after it left the nest, and some great views of feeding and learning to fly were observed. HUMMINGBIRD NEST 2005

HUMMINGBIRD NEST 2005
Newly Born HummingbirdEvery once in awhile someone is able to photograph the early stages of a Hummingbird's life. In 2005 a pair of young Allen's Hummingbirds were captured from Mom laying the egg until departure, 24 days total.

Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. Took 24 days from birth to flight. Because you'll probably never in your lifetime see this again, enjoy; and please share.
